Safeguarding Journey

Safeguarding CHildren: Awareness and Action

A Child Protection Raising Awareness & Action course was held at the Welsh Institute of Sport on Tuesday 30th September 2003. Enthusiastic participants attended the course from a wide range of clubs and counties in South and West Wales. Participants included coaches, referees and volunteers.

The course focused on identifying good and bad practice scenarios, recognising abuse, and responding to suspicions, allegations and disclosure.

The aim in Wales Squash and Racketball, is to create a safe environment for children, members, officials and volunteers, and to help to maintain a high standard of professionalism and standard of practice, that can be associated with the sport.

Wales Squash and Racketball wish to keep these issues high on people’s agendas, where child protection becomes a talking point.

A Safeguarding Children Steering Group has been formed, to help drive these messages positively into the counties, and into the clubs. Wales Squash and Racketball is building on this foundation by identifying Club Welfare Officers in every junior club.

If you are interested in being your club representative on these issues, then please contact Mike Workman at the Wales Squash and Racketball office. Your input will be welcomed.
